The objective of the meeting was to hammer out a temporary spending bill likely to include an extension of President Barack Obama's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival program, or DACA, for some immigrants brought into the United States as minors.
Meeting with Republicans and Democrats at the White House today, Trump said he wants funding for a massive border wall and an end to chain migration and visa lotteries.
For more than a year, Republicans have tried to downplay Trump's border wall, ignore it, even blast it. Members of the GOP who have spent decades on immigration reform have reiterated time and time again that a border wall is hardly the most effective way to secure the border.

Representatives and senators attending the meeting with the White House are faced with tough negotiations. But they're up against a base that doesn't want to give Trump a single victory, much less one on a wall they say is patently racist and a waste of money.

When Sen. Mazie Horono, D-HI, challenged Trump for supporting a border wall that would cost $18 billion, Trump countered, "We can do it for less".
Republicans had a meeting among themselves on Capitol Hill last night with Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen that went relatively well, according to the source.
"We are going to end chain migration".
Democrats have been trying to find a permanent DACA solution by granting funds to the government.
"We want to make sure that we have interior and border enforcement", he said.
The source told CNN that Miller is involved in talks, but Kelly has taken charge.
That means Republicans now face the possibility of having no budget accord anytime soon - unless they cave to Democrats.
