Trump Appears To Forget The Words To The National Anthem

Trump, who has made a respectful observation of the national anthem at sporting events a fiercely divisive political issue, stood at midfield and sang some of the "Star-Spangled Banner," while remaining silent at other times.

Twitterati was quick to notice this and had a field day commenting on how Trump may have forgotten the words to the national anthem. Earlier this year, Trump was accused of stoking a culture war by loudly criticizing Colin Kaepernick and other NFL players for kneeling during the National Anthem as a form of peaceful protest against racism. BBC News journalist Anthony Zurcher pointed out on Twitter that it can be hard to hear the anthem on the field, and singing along isn't always easy.

"Oh my god. He was mouthing the wrong words", wrote one user.

While Zac Brown's team didn't end up taking the title, the moment was more than enough for the singer, who later tweeted "Thank you for the honor to sing our National Anthem". "We want our national anthem respected also". The President was singing along on the field before the game in Atlanta on January 8, 2018. "Singing along wouldn't be easy for him".

At first, the president's detractors took to Twitter, gleefully suggesting that he didn't know the words to the song at all.

Trump had been speaking just hours before at the Farming Bureau and tweeted: "We are fighting for our farmers, for our country, and for our GREAT AMERICAN FLAG". Crooked Hillary Clinton also played these cards very hard and, as everyone knows, went down in flames.

Before the college football national championship game on Monday, the President of the United States looked more than a little lost. I don't think I do, but if a few stray punchlines subconsciously cross my lips, it doesn't mean that I don't know the rest of it, too.
