Homestand Hero Brad Marchand, who scored three straight winning goals (two in overtime, one in the last minute of regulation) before Saturday, was involved in a first-period collision with Anthony Duclair that sent the "Hawks" forward out of the game with a right leg injury, leading to concern that the NHL Department of Player Safety - which has already suspended Marchand six times in his career, most recently a five-game ban from January 25-Feb.
Coming off a 3-2 victory against Philadelphia, the Bruins scored four power-play goals and one shorthanded.
The Bruins (92 points) are red-hot and now taking a five-game winning streak with them into Chicago.
"This time of year, you're playing teams in different circumstances", said head coach Bruce Cassidy. "Teams that are loose, our guys feel they can win those games". His bid was denied, but Noel Acciari was Johnny-on-the-rebound for his eighth of the season and Boston's 10th shorthanded of the season at 11:27.
"We're comfortable in all sorts of games and obviously when things need to be tightened up, we do that as well", said Gionta, who played just his fifth game since signing with the Bruins.
Tuukka Rask made 23 saves on his 31st birthday.
"For 40 minutes we were decent".
Duclair had to be helped off the ice after the collision, favoring his right leg, and is expected to miss up to two weeks, according to coach Joel Quenneville. Khudobin surrendered a power-play goal to center Artem Anisimov at 7:26 of the first period and then shut the door until late in the third. It was a bright spot for a team well outside the playoff picture.

Gionta, the captain of the US team at the Pyeongchang Olympics, scored the go-ahead goal 8:02 into the third by tapping in a rebound at the edge of the crease.
Boston had tied it at 4 when Pastrnak charged to the net to knock in Brad Marchand's rebound with 13:37 left in the third period.
The Blackhawks would score the game's next three goals, but when the second power-play unit went back out there in search of the game-tying goal, it was DeBrusk that found Krejci once again.

The teams were tied at 2 after a first period that featured plenty of good scoring chances and a shot off a post by each club. He did have a pair of assists, but the day belonged to the Bruins' special teams, which scored five goals. Sean Kuraly had one goal and one assist on four shots in 11:11 minutes.
The Boston Bruins (43-15-8) go on the road to face the Chicago Blackhawks (29-32-8) on Thursday. Gustafsson fired a shot from almost the identical spot that beat Rask to the same side, tying it at 14:56.
The Bruins played without leading scorer Brad Marchand, who sat out with an upper-body injury.
"We've shown that we can play every kind of style of hockey", Rask added, "and I think that's not concerning".
"I thought, through two periods", Cassidy said, "we were okay, and that's what the result was looking like: we'd just be okay".
