Drama over Rathwa's Rajya Sabha nomination ends with acceptance

Late last night, the AICC announced former revenue minister of the Arjun Singh government Rajmani Patel, who led a backwards movement in the state during the early Eighties as its candidate for the Rajya Sabha.

Tribal leader Rathwa was found wanting in certain documents needed for filing nomination at the Gujarat Assembly premises on Monday. All this while the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party party was raising objection to his nomination.

Flatly turning down the request from Opposition JD (S) to extend support for its industrialist candidate B M Farooq for the Rajya Sabha seat, the ruling Congress party has chose to try its luck by gambling on winning the third out of the four Rajya Sabha seats from the Karnataka Legislative Assembly.

"The nomination papers will be scrutinised on Tuesday and last date for withdrawal of candidates is on Thursday". Eventually, the Returning Officer ruled in favour of Rathwa and accepted his nomination form.

For the first time since the state came into existence, Congress party on Monday made a decision to send a member of the OBC community to the Rajya Sabha.

Asked if the BJP approached the Central Election Commission on the issue, Gohil said: "Let them go wherever they (BJP) want to". Find us on Facebook too!

The BJP has fielded Union ministers Purshottam Rupala and Mansukh Mandavia, apart from former MLA Kiritsinh Rana.

Vaghani said: "We are awaiting the Returning Officer's orders and will decide the next course of action after examining the document".

"Vats is presently holding the post of Chief Executive Officer and Chief Adviser at the Maharaja Agarsen Medical College and Research Institute at Agroha, in Hisar, which is an office of profit, but he has not disclosed this fact in his nomination papers", Dalal alleged.

The BJP nominated businessman Rajeev Chandrasekhar as its candidate from Karnataka on Sunday.

Among the seven nominations accepted was BJP's dummy candidate Rajnikant Patel. Independent candidate PK Valera is also backed by the Congress.
