The bye-election results to the Araria Lok Sabha constituency will be declared today. Gorakhpur bypoll results 2018: In a turn of events, SP's Praveen Kumar Nishad is leading by 1523 with 44,979 votes, BJP's Upendra Dutt Shukla second with 43,456 votes. While the bypoll in Araria is being viewed as a test for the ruling JD (U)-BJP combine as well as the Opposition RJD-Congress alliance ahead of the big battle in the general elections due next year, the parties are looking forward to winning the Assembly seats ahead of the crucial Rajya Sabha polls.

Gorakhpur/Patna: Counting of votes for bypolls to three Lok Sabha seats - Phulpur and Gorakpur in Uttar Pradesh and Araria in Bihar - began at 8 am on Wednesday.

In Phulpur, Samajwadi Party's Nagendra Pratap Singh Patel is leading by 15,713 votes with 1,22,247 votes followed by BJP's Kaushlendra Singh Patel with with 1,06,534 votes after 11th round of counting.

Jehangabad SS College has been selected as the counting centre for the counting of votes for the assembly.

In Araria, RJD's Sarfaraz Alam, son of deceased MP Taslimuddin is contesting against BJP's Pradip Singh while in Jehanabad the fight is between RJD's Suday Yadav, son of deceased MLA Mundrika Singh Yadav, and JD (U)'s Abhiram Sharma.

Fifty-seven percent votes were recorded in Araria while the voter turnout was 54.03 percent and 50.06 percent in Jehanabad and Bhabhua respectively. The Bhabua seat is witnessing a straight contest between BJP's Rinki Pandey and Congress' Shambhu Singh Patel.

Bihar, where votes are being counted for one Lok Sabha constituency and two Lok Sabha seats, seems headed for a status quo.
