Based on Jean Hanff Korelitz's 2014 novel You Should Have Known, the limited run series follows Grace Sachs, a therapist whose picture-perfect Upper East Side foundation is suddenly shaken when a fellow mother is found dead - and Grace's husband is suddenly unreachable. The story also involves the disappearance of Grace's husband, which in turns leads to a number of discoveries that forever change her life.

Kelley added, "I loved this book, a character-driven psychological thriller".

Kelley will executive produce The Undoing through David E. Kelley Productions and will serve as the showrunner. Kidman won the Emmy, Golden Globe and SAG Award for her role as Celeste Wright in Big Little Lies. "I'm excited and honored to continue collaborating with HBO and David E. Kelley", she said.
The Undoing joins HBO's red-hot roster of dramas, which features Game of Thrones, Westworld, True Detective, Sharp Objects, The Deuce, Here and Now, The New Pope, Demimonde, and Lovecraft Country.
