Venus and Serena are scheduled to face each other after 2 p.m. ET on Monday, live on the Tennis Channel and streaming online at WatchESPN. Serena leads Venus 17-11 all-time and has won eight of their last nine meetings, most recently the Australian Open final a year ago. She said their father, Richard, would probably decide - an insinuation that their matches were rigged.
It will be their earliest meeting since the sisters' first match in the series, a straight-sets victory by Venus in the second round of the 1998 Australian Open. Since she is also not one to shy away from a new 'do and loves experimenting with her hairstyles on and off the court, perhaps some hair care products will be in the mix.
"I literally didn't even think about it", Serena replied, when asked whether she was happy the match would finally get to take place.
"That's, you know, totally gone out of my mind", Serena said Saturday.
Serena, unseeded in the wake of her long layoff, admitted she would have preferred not to come up against her sister so soon in the draw.More news: Slovak PM Fico's coalition partner calls for early elections
And while she is busy juggling her sport career with caring for her baby daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., who she shares with her Reddit co-founder husband Alexis Ohanian, the 36-year-old is fully invested in her fashion venture.
Venus is enjoying a resurgence on the Tour after a string of injuries limited her playing time for several seasons. In fact, it's the first time they've met before the Round of 16 since their very first head-to-head matchup more than 20 years ago.
Venus had a bye in the first round and reached the round of 32 by beating Sorana Cirstea in straight sets. She won four of the final five games of the second set, breaking Cirstea three times to close it out.
Danish second seed Caroline Wozniacki beat Spaniard Lara Arruabarrena 6-4 6-1, while Ukrainian fourth seed Elina Svitolina defeated German Mona Barthel 6-4 6-3. In other matches, fifth seed Dominic Thiem beat Greek 19-year-old Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 while South African seventh seed Kevin Anderson overcame Russian Evgeny Donskoy 7-5, 6-4.
