Keenum: From Minnesota Backup To Starter To New Denver QB

In Denver, poor quarterback play doomed the Broncos last season as the team stumbled to a 5-11 record, its worst campaign since 2010. He's played the complete schedule twice, missed the entire 2014 season and was limited to two games with the Vikings in 2017.

Plenty of teams are looking to upgrade under center this offseason, and the Broncos are reportedly the first team to nab one through free agency. The 30-year old QB finished the season with 3,547 passing yards as well as 22 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

The Denver Broncos have their quarterback, and it isn't Kirk Cousins.

Siemian again handily beat out Lynch last summer, but the Broncos would cycle through their trio of homegrown QBs during a 5-11 season that almost cost rookie head coach Vance Joseph his job.

The only other quarterback now signed by the Vikings is former undrafted free agent Kyle Sloter.

According to James Palmer of NFL Network, Denver has picked up the option for wide receiver Demaryius Thomas.

That included choosing among the draft prospects that include Josh Allen, Josh Rosen, Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield and others. "That is what we are working on".

It is not certain yet what sort of contract that Keenum, who made $2 million last season, will get. "Obviously, we have to get better at that (quarterback) position". But they could begin negotiating with the players' agents at noon Monday, and Tuesday brought a continuous string of reports on personnel moves that will happen when the league's 2018 business year starts on Wednesday. But that doesn't go all on the players, too. There were some things that we should have done, that we should have done differently that we didn't do.

Elway insists the Broncos can get right back into the playoff picture with the right quarterback and tweaks to other areas of the roster.
