A new Splinter Cell game has apparently popped up in the Amazon Canada listings, hinting at a possible E3 2018 reveal after many years passed since the latest release in the beloved stealth franchise.
Amazon Canada has listed a game simply titled Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell 2018, along with the name of the publisher Ubisoft, and a "Currently unavailable" status. The bad news is that it contains absolutely no information: no images, no release date or placeholder date, no description, no price, and no platforms.
The listing, however, has been taken down now, and it could have been a mistake on Amazon's part.
While Splinter Cell was always considered a stealth-oriented game, the game deviated from its roots as time went on and became a hybrid of stealth and action just like Resident Evil, but the latter managed to redeem itself in the 7th installment, so perhaps Sam Fisher is due out of retirement too?More news: Apple to buy digital magazine service Texture
It has been five years since the last Splinter game named Splinter Cell: Blacklist was launched globally.
Back during E3 2017 Guillemot stated that "What we can say is we're receiving a lot of sketches and proposals around the brand and we're going to pick one up, I think you will be able to see something, but you will have to wait for that". "But, for sure, all the Clancy games are taken care of".
It's no secret that the once active agent who has had numerous games on the previous generation consoles and on the pc has gone under for an extended period with a long absence from the current generation consoles and pc. "It's just we have quite a lot on our plate at the moment". This timing would ideally mean that we can expect that Splinter Cell game this year.
