One person hospitalized after early morning house fire

A 40-year-old man and two children aged three and six months old are believed to have been inside at the time of the fire and were found dead at the scene

Newport News Firefighters battled a house fire in the 300 block of Chesapeake Avenue around 8:00 Sunday morning.

No one was in the house at the time, but neighbouring homes were evacuated, Gatineau Fire Services said in a press release.

It took 12 units and 28 firefighters, 19 minutes to control the fire, TFD said. "He's in the hospital right now being evaluated for his injuries".

TFD said crews located a husband and wife outside of the home.

Police said the family had moved to the south-east Queensland town from Cherbourg just before Christmas.

Fire officials say they had to use multiple access points, because it is an older home.

State fire investigators have travelled from Brisbane to the scene to try to determine the cause of the blaze.
