United States diplomats told not to tweet or post on Tillerson's firing

The way West Wing staffers have been fired or have resigned gives the impression that Trump's house has imploded.

CIA Director Mike Pompeo was nominated to serve as Secretary of State, replacing Rex Tillerson.

Gina Haspel is also an excellent choice to become the new CIA Director.

Pompeo considers Russia's involvement in the 2016 US presidential election insignificant, saying that Russian Federation has been interfering in various USA elections for decades.

Trump did not assign any reason for sacking Tillerson.

At the same time, Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano expressed confidence "of more cooperation and collaboration with Washington with Secretary-designate Pompeo at the helm of the Department of State". On Tuesday, Trump cited his difference of opinion on Iran as a reason for Tillerson's firing stating, "When you look at the Iran deal, I think it's awful", whereas Tillerson thought "it was okay".

Asked if Tillerson had spoken with Pompeo about the job, Nauert said, "I know that they have plans to talk, that Secretary Tillerson has plans to talk to".

The White House insists Mr Tillerson received a phone call on Friday from Chief of Staff John Kelly, who told him that he was being let go. Tillerson, who was traveling in Africa, had told reporters just a day earlier that the US was "a long ways from negotiations" with Pyongyang.

Of course, relations with the United States, an important and powerful neighbour where large number of Jamaicans live, is important to us. It came on the same day as the president's body man was sacked over a security clearance issue, and an undersecretary of state was sent packing in the wake of his boss. There is no signal that this region, under the current president, registers on the dial at the White House, or that Mr Tillerson's visit to Jamaica was other than of his own volition. He conspicuously did not thank or praise Trump. Since October 2017 Rex Tillerson's position has been rather shaky.

In July, reports surfaced that Tillerson had called Trump "a moron", an accusation that Tillerson did not immediately disavow. Since then there have been repeated rumours that Tillerson resigned.

Despite Tillerson 's determination to stick with the deal, Trump has threatened to scrap what he has dubbed a "terrible" agreement unless tough new restrictions were placed on Iran by May 12. "It is not so much hawkish versus dovish as much as it is someone who is willing to stand up to Trump and be independent and run the department and execute American foreign policy on more than just Trump's whim", a Senate aide told me.

Last week, the President accepted an invitation to meet with DPRK leader Kim Jong-un. He has shared the Saudi view that the long and tortuous negotiations in Vienna and Geneva were an Iranian diplomatic masterclass which conned the worldwide community into lifting sanctions in return for time-limited commitments that it never meant to honor anyway. All these episodes only reveal that the two men were not in sync on United States foreign policy. Thus far, Ambassador Haley has successfully avoided the chaos of Trump's inner circle and cabinet.

Tillerson's dismissal comes on the heels of another development that has greatly relieved and energised Trump.

"We disagreed on things", Trump said Tuesday. "Now there is no daylight between the president and the secretary of state". As well, Tillerson had issues with Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump.

Donald Trump's relentless march to war against North Korea and, eventually, against Iran accelerated this week with the firing of Rex Tillerson, likely the most incompetent USA secretary of state in modern history. Over the past 14 months, Tillerson hardly got any positive news about his performance.
