Veteran Kannada actress Jayanthi's family deny rumours of her demise

Veteran South Indian actress Jayanthi was rushed to Vikram hospital in Bengaluru on Sunday (March 25) after she complained of difficulty in breathing.

Following the viral reports on Jayanthi's supposed death, many politicians, celebrities fell for the confusion and consequentially took to social media and expressed their grief and condolences. She was put on ventilator support but her condition is said to have improved in the last four days of the treatment.

Jayanthi's son told the media, "There is no truth in the news of Jayanti's death in social media".

Jayanthi's son Krishna Kumar was earlier quoted by International Business Times, after his mother was hospitalised. He had said, "She has been suffering from asthma for 35 years". Rumours of her passing began doing the rounds on Tuesday afternoon, but they were rubbished when reports stated that the actress was being shifted out of the ICU.

Actor Jayanthi has been a part of over 500 films and she was one of the lead female actors who paired up with actor Rajkumar often.

The 75-year-old actor is addressed as "Abhinaye Sharadhe" by the industry and her fans for her work not just in Kannada, but Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Marathi and Hindi films as well.

Her most famous films are Miss Leelavathi, Sri Krishnadevaraya and Edakallu Guddada Mele, to name a few. In Tamil films, she acted with nearly all the biggies including MG Ramachandran, Gemini Ganesan, R Muthuraman and Jaishankar.
