A Monster.com report revealed that the current gender pay gap in India stands at 20 per cent where men earned a median gross hourly salary of Rs 231, while women earned Rs 184.8.
The findings in this report are drawn from 4,995 interviews conducted between July and December 2017 with chief executive officers, managing directors, chairs, and other senior decision-makers from all industry sectors in mid-market businesses in 35 countries.

The MSI report stated that Indian women earned 20 per cent less than men, clearly indicating that gender acts as a crucial parameter in determining salaries throughout the country.
According to the firm's analysis, the pay gap is less the result of men and women not being paid equally for equivalent jobs, and more the result of unequal gender distribution across the firm. While men with 0-2 years of experience earned 7.8% higher median wages than women, men with 6-10 years of experience earned 15.3% more. "Men with 11 and more years of experience earned 25 % higher median wages than women", a statement said. Interestingly, there is a marginally inverted pay gap in the experience group of 3-5 years, where women are earning more.
In 2017, in an effort to help close the wage gap, the United Kingdom began requiring all companies with 250 or more employees to submit gender pay gap data to the government. Also, 40% of women felt men simply did not know what to do or say. "Moreover, the overall gender pay gap of 20% is still a daunting number". On an average, women are paid almost 23 percent lower than men and in countries like Turkey, the gap can be as much as 75 percent.
Native American women also have the highest poverty rate in the United States.
