7 inmates killed in SC prison violence

At least seven people were killed after fights broke out at the Lee Correctional Institution in Bishopville S.C. late Sunday

The conflicts started all around 7:15 p.m.in a few home units at Lee Correctional Institution, which houses some of the country's barbarous and longest-serving offenders.

After a four day standoff with inmates holding 42 hostages, NY state police moved in to retake the prison on orders of governor Nelson Rockefeller.

In 1993, nine inmates and a corrections officer were killed in the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility, a maximum security prison in Lucasville, Ohio.

At least seven inmates were killed and 17 injured when a prison melee broke out at a SC prison, officials said.

"If everybody has an uprising, you are always going to be understaffed", Logan said. Four inmates were killed by a pair of prisoners in the state's Kirkland Correctional Institution previous year.

South Carolina Department of Corrections did not immediately return a request for comment Monday morning.
