Bartolo Colon, 44, takes ideal game into 8th inning vs. Astros

Colon took a flawless game into the eighth inning before doling out a walk and then allowing a double to Josh Reddick.

Texas Rangers right-hander Bartolo Colon has a ideal game through seven innings Sunday against the reigning World Series champion Houston Astros.

Robinson Chirinos homered and drove in three runs on Sunday, powering the Rangers to a 3-1 victory over the Astros in 10 innings. Nolan Ryan was also 44 when he threw a no-hitter, but over 150 days younger.

The 44-year-old veteran finished the game with seven strikeouts, one hit and one run allowed through 7.2 innings.

Squaring off on Sunday Night Baseball, Bartolo Colon and Justin Verlander were engaged in the best pitcher's duel of the year so far.

Colon's longest no-hit bid came with the Cleveland Indians on September 18, 2000, when he held the New York Yankees hitless for 7 1/3 innings.

Colon ended up with a one-hitter in a 2-0 win at Yankee Stadium. Verlander has fanned nine through seven innings.
