Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday accepted the resignations of state ministers Chandra Prakash Ganga and Lal Singh in Kathua rape and murder case.

The Bar Council of India (BCI) today asked the Jammu and Kathua bar associations to call off their strike and made a decision to send a five-member team headed by a former high court chief justice to investigate the alleged incident of misconduct on part of the lawyers there in connection with the Kathua rape-murder case.

Many protesters expressed anger at the Bharatiya Janata Party, alleging that its leaders in Jammu and Kashmir were initially siding with the accused in the Kathua case. "It was sheer indiscretion on their part", he said.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi on April 13 led a midnight march to the India Gate in the heart of the national capital to demand justice for the Kathua and Unnao rape victims.

In a letter to prime minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, she said: "I will not break my anshan (fast) until the prime minister does not (promise) the country a better system for the safety of our daughters".

The victim girl was adopted by the woman's brother and his wife in Rasana, a village of Kathua district when she was 1-years-old. "I want to thank people of Jammu for standing united against the gory crime", she said.

The trial is expected to go smoothly after the Jammu Bar Association as well as the Kathua Bar received a rap on the kuckles by the Supreme Court on April 13 as the apex court took a strong note of some lawyers obstructing the judicial process in the case.

A week later, her body was found in the same area.

One, the immediate dismissal of the Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh for protecting a rapist and for abetting the death in police custody of the father of the rape victim in Unnao.

A Special Investigation Team of Crime Branch, formed to probe the incident, has arrested eight people, including two special police officers (SPOs) and a head constable and a sub-inspector, who were charged with destroying evidence.

"While it may seem to get bogged down by different discourses at times, it's DNA of love and compassion always remains the same", she added.
