Alvarez must also undergo drug tests, but no fine was recommended because past ones have been based on future purses. "Golovkin vs. Martirosyan will definitely be the fiesta de resistance of Cinco De Mayo".

Alvarez blamed contaminated beef in Mexico for his positive test and vowed to plead his case before the commission.

On Wednesday, Alvarez learned he had been suspended six months by Nevada boxing officials, and will undergo further drug testing. Golovkin and Alvarez fought to a widely disputed draw last September that had fans criticizing the integrity of the judges assigned to the fight- especially Adalaide Byrd's 118-110 score in favor of Alvarez, which pretty much defied explanation.

Gennady Golovkin (37-0-1) risks losing one of his four middleweight titles if he proceeds to fight Vanes Martirosyan on May 5. Recent reports suggest that Vanes Martirosyan- a natural junior middleweight who has been inactive for almost two years- is now the focus of Team Golovkin. "That's the fight that GGG wants". He did remove himself from the fight recently after news of the results.

Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 knockouts) was temporarily suspended by the commission on March 23. "He has my respect and I am training hard to defend my titles against him", said Golovkin.

"Of course, like everybody said, he's huge Mexican star", Golovkin told reporters in Los Angeles last week. Canelo looks forward to returning to the ring in September for Mexican Independence Day weekend to represent Mexico and boxing in what will be the sport's biggest event of the year. I didn't ask about money at all. I have a lot of Mexican fans. Armenian-American Martirosyan usually fights at light middleweight and has lost both of his title bouts at that level - to Demetrius Andrade in 2013 and Erislandy Lara in 2016.
