Germany Says It Has To Assume Russia Behind Recent Cyber Attack

The UN Security Council on Saturday held an emergency meeting at Russia's request over the missile attack on Syria but failed to approve a Moscow-led resolution condemning the bombardment.

In a bid to get back at the West for launching a military strike on its close ally Syria, over an alleged chemical weapons attack on Douma - Russia is now said to be responding with cyber attacks in Syria's defense.

A Russian official says a team of chemical weapons experts is set to make a visit Wednesday to the site east of Syria's capital where a suspected chemical attack killed dozens of people earlier this month.

Russian Federation further blamed the Saturday airstrikes for the delays in the OPCW team being able to access Douma.

USA officials said they notified Russian counterparts through "normal deconfliction channels" that allied forces would be using Syrian airspace in the strikes, which did not hit any Russian assets.

Sputnik: Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova recently said that Russia was being punished for its presence on the worldwide arena, do you agree with that?

"It is our concern that they may have tampered with it with the intent of thwarting the efforts of the OPCW Fact-Finding Mission to conduct an effective investigation", he said. They did not identify victims or provide details on the impact of the attacks. "Russia and Syria must cooperate".

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters in a conference call that London and Washington had not presented any evidence. This was at the very beginning after this information [of the attack] appeared.

"Any escalation in Syria may also instigate unrest elsewhere in the region, either against the USA or its allies, raising the threat to the delivery of energy supplies", analysts at Barclays Capital warned in a research note published before the missile attacks. "Therefore allegations of this towards Russian Federation are groundless", Peskov said.

She said the chemicals were dropped in barrel bombs from helicopters, which are only used by the Syrian government. There has been speculation that Russian Federation will retaliate in the form of cyber-attacks.

He worked for the news service Noviy Den (New Day) and recently wrote on the deaths of employees of the so-called "Wagner Group", the private army Moscow is using in Syria.

USA intelligence agencies also concluded that Moscow interfered in the 2016 presidential campaign and a federal prosecutor is investigating whether President Donald Trump's campaign colluded with Russians to sway the vote.

The report said the information "forms a body of evidence that is sufficient to attribute responsibility for the chemical attacks of 7 April to the Syrian regime" of President Bashar Assad and that there was "no plausible scenario other than that of an attack by Syrian armed forces".
