Harry Anderson, 'Night Court' Star, Dead at 65

Actor Harry Anderson, best known for his portrayal of Judge Harry Stone in the 80s sitcom "Night Court" was found dead in his home in Asheville, North Carolina on Monday, local police confirmed to WHNS-TV. According to officials, no foul play is suspected.

Harry Anderson has passed away at the age of 65. The loss of the actor who played Night Court's good-natured Judge Harry Stone from 1984 to 1992 brought out tributes from former cast members and stars.

After Night Court came to an end, Anderson starred in the CBS sitcom Dave's World, based on the comedic writings of humor columnist Dave Barry.

Anderson made multiple appearances on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and Saturday Night Live, before landing a recurring role on Cheers as a grifter named Harry the Hat. The series also starred John Larroquette, Richard Moll and Markie Post, has always been a syndication favorite. "He was a one of a kind talent who made millions so happy", filmmaker Judd Apatow wrote.

Born Oct. 14, 1952 in Newport, R.I., Anderson was drawn to the art of magic. They named the character Harry so I'd do not forget to react when someone said my name. I loved this guy even though I had never met him.

He went on to reunite with Larroquette with a guest-starring role in The John Larroquette Show in 1996.

Anderson's other credits include the 1990 adaptation of Stephen King's It, Tales from the Crypt, a 30 Rock episode and 2014's A Matter of Faith.
