Hey, that's no way to say goodbye, says Manny Pacquiao's trainer

Pacquiao disclosed his decision Friday, April 13, 2018, in the final sentence of a news release detailing his plans for his upcoming fight against Lucas Matthysse.

Roach, won seven trainer-of-the-year awards from the Boxing Writers Association of America as he developed Pacquiao from a less skillful super-bantamweight in 2001 into a record seven-division world champion.

Roach released a statement in which he expressed his disappointment that Pacquiao did not personally inform him of the split.

"Manny and I had a great run for [16] years - longer than most marriages and certainly a rarity for boxing", Roach said.

While Ledwaba was at the receiving end of the Pacquiao-Roach partnership he is grateful that he helped hatched it and parlayed it into what was to become of the best trainer-boxer relationship.

Roach said on Friday: "I would be lying if I didn't say I wasn't hurt that he didn't contact me personally about his decision, but the great times we enjoyed together far outweigh that".

"Manny will make the final decision on this. When that decision is made, Freddie will be the first one to be informed, and then I will advise the media", Pacquiao posted in his Instagram account early Monday morning. He now holds a record of 59 wins off 38 knockouts and a seven-loss slate.

He said Pacquiao's business manager Michael Koncz informed Roach's assistant in a phone call saying "don't believe everything that you read".

"I will forever be grateful to be associated with what these two achieved", he said.

Manny Pacquiao sounds like a confused fighter in the autumn of his career or, at the very least, the team around him are in disarray.

Since coming to the United States for his first pro fight back in 2001 in Las Vegas, Pacquiao and Roach have been side by side in a remarkable rise for both men as fighter and trainer. Top Rank, Pacquiao's longtime promoter, will handle certain aspects of the promotion. "We have assembled the biggest fight card Malaysia has been waiting for in the last 43 years since Ali-Bugner".
