Apple Music's Head Of Hip Hop Programming Carl Chery Leaving For Spotify: Report

Next week, Spotify will reveal future plans of its mobile app

Chery joined Apple when the tech giant acquired Beats By Dre and Beats Music in 2014. Chery played an important role for Apple, but also for the music industry in general. The person largely responsible for that is their head of hip hop programming, Carl Chery.

Carl Chery's reportedly leaving his position at Apple Music, Variety reports. However, it looks like he'll be taking his talents over to a competing streaming service. Now the company has more than 157 million registered users but only 71 million pay for access to the music catalog without ads. Oliver Schusser took over as chief of Apple Music Worldwide.

Also, the player would have a 4G connection integrated and free but that can only be used to play music streaming from the service. The Swedish company is also believed to be planning a revamp of its free music streaming offering, which is said to make it easier and faster for users to access playlists.

Spotify will be announcing news about changes in its mobile app at an event next week, according to an invite the company sent out.

Spotify hints that its April announcement has something to do with its mobile app. It's also being rumored that the company may announce its very first hardware product during the same event next week. Therefore, this is a serious blow for Apple Music.
