Karnataka is all set to go to polls in a single phase on May 12 with the counting of votes scheduled on May 15.
The TV channel had stated it had accessed the details of the poll schedule from informed sources and, given that the information was not entirely accurate, it was obvious that it was not a leak. JD (S) was the key player in forming coalition governments, first with the Congress and later shifting its support to the BJP.
While the Congress is estimated to win 90-101 seats, its primary challenger BJP is slated to win 78-86 seats. The BJP may win 78-86 seats, almost double to its last tally in 2013, while JD (S) is expected to win 34-43 seats and may play a role of kingmaker in the state.
Among Muslims, 65% said they'd vote for Congress, while 44% Hindus said they would. On the other hand 30 per cent believe that their lives have become better while only 19 per cent say that their lives have become worse, the survey said.More news: Michael Cohen facilitated $1.6 million agreement on behalf of GOP fundraiser
The India Today-Karvy opinion polls said that 38% of the respondents rated Siddaramaiah's performance as good.
The opinion poll also predicts that the HD Deve Gowda's Janata Dal (Secular) will be in the position of kingmaker in Karnataka.
Recently, there has been bad blood between the Congress and the JD (S), with seven rebel JD (S) MLAs deserting the party to join the Congress. As it is considered that in almost 100 constituencies, the community's vote bank is a deciding factor, for both JD (S) and Congress, garnering Muslim support has become crucial.
Surjewala also targeted the BJP government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that the "Beti Bachao" slogan was a warning and not a campaign to educate the girl child, in an apparent reference to the recent allegations of sexual assault against BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and his brothers in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh. The pre-poll alliance with BSP has made political observers question how realistic a BJP-JD (S) alliance can be this time.
