PM Modi rides to North Delhi by Metro, clicks selfies with passengers

A glimpse of Dr Ambedkar Memorial in Delhi

Modi takes a metro ride to inaugurate Ambedkar memorial

He boarded the metro train from the Lok Kalyan Marg Metro Station to travel to 26, Alipur Road in North Delhi.

"In his final speech in the Constituent Assembly, Ambedkar said now that we have constitutional methods of expressing opposition, we should avoid disruptive mechanisms", Kovind said at a function in Mhow, birth place of Bhimrao Ambedkar, on his 127th birth anniversary Saturday.

Kovind said the book that he had been presented was a slim volume but was an accessible resource to understand Ambedkar, covering his life of Ambedkar and several dimensions of his ideas and personality, including how Prime Minister Narendra Modi had been inspired by Ambedkar's life and message.

The Ambedkar Memorial at Alipur Road is built at the place where the dalit icon had breathed his last on December 6, 1956. The foundation stone of the memorial was laid by PM Modi on March 21, 2016.

The memorial also includes a museum, which aims to recreate a detailed experience of Ambedkar's life, and his contributions to the country. A meditation hall has also been created at the memorial. A, a musical fountain and a facade lighting are the other attractions of the memorial.

Hitting out at the political parties for politicising the legacy of BR Ambedkar, PM Modi had, earlier this month, said that no regime had honoured the Dalit icon like his government had.

The remark came in the midst of a bitter debate over Dalit rights triggered by the Supreme Court judgement putting checks in the implementation of SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act.
