He added: "Insulting the president of Russian Federation is unacceptable and inadmissible".
Trump said that the objective of the response "is to establish a strong deterrent against the production, spread, and use of chemical weapons", Trump said. "Right now we have no additional strikes planned", he said.
Speaking to reporters in Moscow, Lavrov reiterated a strong warning to the West against military action in Syria, saying any such "adventures" in Syria would increase flows of refugees into Europe.
"The immediate priority is to avert the danger of war", said Moscow's United Nations ambassador Vassily Nebenzia on Thursday.
The Russian military said Saturday that Syria's Soviet-made air defense systems downed 71 out of 103 cruise missiles launched by the United States and its allies, according to The Associated Press.
A day before a team from the global chemical weapons watchdog was to arrive in Douma, just east of Damascus, Russian Defence Ministry spokesman, Maj. Gen. Ali Mayhoub said that the Scientific Research Center in Barzeh near Damascus was hit, while three people were injured in Homs when a missile was targeted. US officials had earlier said that Trump had pressed for a more aggressive USA strike against Syria than his military chiefs had recommended.
Iran is a key ally of Syrian President Bashar Assad and has sent troops to bolster his forces.
US officials have refused to rule out direct military engagement with Russian Federation, with the White House saying "all options are on the table".
