Only a handful of artists have hosted and performed as the musical guest in a single episode of SNL, including Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Janet Jackson, Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars, and Mick Jagger. The announcement was made during Saturday's John Mulaney-led broadcast.

Donald Glover will appear as both host and musical guest on "Saturday Night Live" May 5.

Glover is doing phenomenal work with his FX dramedy series Atlanta (especially with the shocking "Teddy Perkins" episode) but he has bigger plans on the big screen as well. Glover will also soon appear as Lando Calrissian in "Solo: A Star Wars Story" and as Simba in a new imagining of Disney's "The Lion King". Glover is also the creator and star of Atlanta, and had one of the hilarious leading roles in Dan Harmon's comedy series, Community. Before that, he served as a writer on fellow Thursday-night comedy 30 Rock. And he's won himself a ton of fans as a rapper, singer, and most recently, a '70s funk/soul revivalist under the auspices of his musical project Childish Gambino.
