The doubts of analysts have been kept at bay, at least temporarily. This might be pretty surprising news if you recall all of the doom and gloom reports from the past few months claiming that sales were disappointing and production had been cut because the phone was far too expensive. Xiaomi enjoys a big pie of the smartphone market share in India.
"There's obviously huge opportunities there for us and we have extremely low share in that market overall and so we're putting a lot of energy there", Cook said on Tuesday's call with analysts. But the reaction was muted for most partners given the limited growth in iPhone sales. Raising the dividend by 10 cents per share will cost Apple an additional $2 billion annually, based on its current outstanding stock.
