BlacKkKlansman trailer still

BlacKkKlansman was screened at the Cannes Film Festival

What: The first trailer for BLACKkKLANSMEN. 'BLACKkKLANSMAN', which pairs Lee with Jordan Peele, has been gaining attention for its interesting story plot.

Spike Lee has taken on the challenge in his upcoming comedy "BlacKkKlansman", and based on the new trailer, it looks like he pulled it off.

Denzel Washington's son John David Washington plays Ron Stallworth, the first African-American detective on the Colorado Springs Police Department.

The US release date of 10 August also coincides with the beginning of James Fields Jr's trial, the man Lee refers to as "the motherfucker psychopath who plows his auto down through a crowded street and killed Heather Heyer". Or, in Lee parlance: "Dis joint is based upon some fo' real fo' real shit".

"Lee will surely be a strong contender for the Cannes best-director prize and he may even bag the Palme d'Or, the festival's top honour", the publication said.

At Tuesday's press conference at the Palais, the director was joined by the film's stars, Topher Grace, John David Washington, Laura Harrier and Adam Driver. It was among the most highly anticipated titles at Cannes this year and immediate reaction was positive. He arrived at the Monday night premiere wearing two knuckle rings, one of which read "love" and the other "hate", along with a pair of Nike shoes - one white, one back - that featured the name of the film on the side of each.

Though the film has already released at Cannes, this pitch-perfect trailer is the closest audiences will get to BlacKkKlansman before its theatrical release on August 10.
