The cause of the spinoff's disappointing performance may be due to Star Wars fatigue

The news comes just as another character-centric Star Wars spinoff, Solo: A Star Wars Story, hits theaters. As The Hollywood Reporter revealed past year, Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot, The Hours) is now in talks to direct an Obi-Wan spinoff.

It's not the first time that a Boba Fett film has been in the works, as Deadline reported that Disney was working on one with director Josh Trank before he left Lucasfilm in May of 2015.

According to The Verge, the fan favorite Fett made his first appearance in the 1978 "Star Wars Holiday Special".

Fett became a popular character after his inclusion in 1980's Empire Strikes Back film where he was played by Jeremy Bulloch.

A Boba Fett Star Wars movie is happening. He will co-write it with Simon Kinberg, the screenwriter behind several "X-Men" films.

A Star Wars Story has now been released worldwide and fans have discovered that it contains a quick but significant reference to a character from The Phantom Menace - and no, it's not the one you're probably thinking of. Kinberg, who was a producer on "Logan", will also be a producer of the Boba Fett film.

The Clone Wars animated series further hinted at his evolution into a fearsome bounty hunter and his desire to avenge his father's death, but Boba's actual personality still largely remains a blank slate. It establishes that Jango is the genetic template for the Grand Army of the Republic, who is decapitated in front of his "son" Boba Fett by Jedi Master Mace "Mother Fuckin'" Windu.

Board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away in Solo: A Star Wars Story, an all-new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy.

Well, it's happening: we're getting a Boba Fett movie.
