Following a lockdown at the middle school due to the shooting, students were taken by bus to Noblesville High School.

Police have reportedly confirmed that the families of the victims have been notified.

Vedder said when he heard on the news that the injured teacher was a seventh-grade science teacher, "I knew it had to be him".

One said she used an app to track her son there and that was the way she knew he was safe.

Jeremie Lovall said his daughter, a seventh-grader in the school, was in the classroom when the shooting started.

Seaman was in good condition on Friday night, police spokesman Bruce Barnes said.

Two days before the Texas shooting, a student opened fire on a school resource officer at Dixon High School in IL, just outside an auditorium where graduation practice was being held.

In an afternoon press conference, an Indiana State Police Lieutenant said: "Here we go again".

"Our thoughts are with all those affected by this disgusting situation", he said, adding that about 100 State Police officers had been made available to work with local responders.

"I didn't cry", he said, "but a lot of people were crying".

"We've had these shootings around the country", Noblesville Mayor John Ditslear said. Neighbors told him they had seen FBI and ATF teams arrive in unmarked cars around 11:30 a.m. and described the home that appeared to be the focus of the investigation as "newer homeowners and a nice family".

He said that his brother was "talking" when he was en route to the hospital and that he had spoken to his wife.

After Friday's shooting, Carly Novel, a Marjory Stoneman student, tweeted: "Noblesville Middle School students I am so sorry". She was going to study for a science test on Friday. Police are onsite at the high school. Another eyeopening statistic comes from CNN, which collected data which reveals that 21 weeks into 2018, there have already been 23 school shootings where someone was hurt or killed.

"I'm always telling my kids that I believe that they need to have daily school searches and not let them carry backpacks", she said.

"[The gunman] took about four to five maybe six shots, one of them hitting a girl that was about 10 feet from me", a student who asked not to be identified told CBS4 in Indianapolis.

The two victims were transported to a hospital from Noblesville West Middle School in a suburb of the state capital Indianapolis, according to state police.
