The finalists for the award were New Orleans' Anthony Davis, Philadelphia's Joel Embiid and Utah's Rudy Gtobert.

LeBron James, James Harden and Anthony Davis are on the shortlist for winning the MVP award as the National Basketball Association announced Wednesday the finalists for a number of awards to be handed out following the end of the postseason.

Wednesday night before tip-off of game two of the Western Conference Finals, the National Basketball Association announced the three finalists for the league's highest individual honor. He led the National Basketball Association in scoring, averaging 30.4 points per game along with 5.4 rebounds, 8.8 assists and 1.8 steals.

LeBron James believes he should win the NBA MVP award this season. He's been named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team three years in a row, from 2015-2017.

James led the league in minutes played per game as he helped the inconsistent Cavaliers into 4th place in the Eastern Conference.

Davis and the Pelicans overcame a season-ending injury to sidekick DeMarcus Cousins to earn the 6th seed in the Western Conference.

After plenty of off-court chat, Donovan Mitchell and Ben Simmons will continue their battle for rookie of the year, while Jayson Tatum is also a finalist.

The finalists in all categories were determined by voting by a global panel of sportswriters and broadcasters.

The victor of the NBA's MVP will be revealed at the 2018 NBA Awards on Monday, June 25. Toronto Raptors guard Fred VanVleet is the other finalist.
