The victory showcased Mackenzie Dern's ever evolving stand-up and of course her ridiculous submission skills, but the dominant win was likely overshadowed by the fact that Dern came in seven pounds over the 116-pound strawweight limit for the fight.

Cooper made weight and the fight will go on as planned at a 123-pound catchweight, with Cooper receiving 30 percent of Dern's purse as a penalty.

Mackenzie Dern on how ashamed she feels: "I'm ashamed of that; I don't want that to happen again". But there was a point where the weight wasn't going away any more.

Mackenzie Dern has addressed missing weight for her bout at last night's (Sat., May 12, 2018) UFC 224 from Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. "I knew that Brazil would support me".

More than anything, Dern says she's just as disappointed in herself as anybody else over her latest weight cutting disaster. Cooper started the fight aggressively, taking control of the center of the octagon and landed left hands. Not that one thing is worse than the other, but I don't take steroids, I didn't pop for something. I went and ran and everything came off, so it's flawless.' ... There's champions that are caught using drugs, cocaine, things like that. Not that it's not important I believe in what they're offering to me. "For me it was a mistake and I'm going to work with the UFC to make sure it never happens again".

"My manager said the UFC wants me to move up in weight", Dern admitted. "I believe that's what they want", Dern said.

Saturday's fight was the first time Cooper had appeared on the main card of a UFC pay-per-view.
