Steven Gerrard expected to be confirmed as Rangers manager on Friday

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard is set to be announced as Rangers manager on a three-year-deal.

Numerous former coaches and team-mates of Gerrard have had their say on the ex-England star taking up the role at Ibrox. "I'm busy now for a couple of days but I will pick it up on Thursday and we'll see if we can progress it".

Rangers are now third in the Scottish Premiership, 13 points behind Celtic, who clinched a seventh straight title when they defeated their Glasgow rivals at the weekend.

Gerrard will be in Italy on Wednesday working as a TV pundit for Liverpool's Champions League semifinal against Roma.

The St Mary's have been scotuing Stuart Armstrong and Moussa Dembele but Rogic's performances for Celtic have also caught the attention of recruitment chief Ross Wilson, who watched the Australian dominate Rangers in the 5-0 win.

Rangers said in a statement: "Paul has been a director since March 2015 and played an important role at that time in helping oust the previous board and restore the club to the hands of those who have its best interests at heart".

Assistant coaches Jimmy Nicholl and Jonatan Johansson have been put in temporary charge for Saturday's home game with Kilmarnock.

"In terms of the size of the club and knowing Steven pretty well, I think it's a great opportunity for him", Lampard told TalkSPORT.

Arsenal idol Wright said: "With Steven being the personality that he is, wherever he goes, he is going to have that focus on him, so you might as well go somewhere like Rangers where their aim is to get closer to Celtic".
