The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for several counties in upstate NY and northeastern Pennsylvania. It also says some large hail to the size of golf balls are possible and even perhaps a tornado or two. Some of the storms could be severe. This will set us up for a flow of tropical moisture to move up the coast into New England that will possibly bring rounds of soaking rains on Saturday.

The National Weather Service has issued a new severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Southwest Virginia.

Two people are dead and almost half a million customers in the Northeast are without power due to severe weather that includes thunderstorms, flash flooding, hail, winds up to 80 miles per hour and possibly tornadoes. "It was mostly tree damage, but there were also a couple cars crushed by falling trees". Inclement weather is in the forecast for the remainder of the week, and into the weekend.

This time of year, it is always a good idea to have a severe weather plan in place.

As this front stalls just to our south again, there will be a slight chance of showers on Wednesday.

Good afternoon! We are gearing up our severe weather operations for later this afternoon. The first round occurred this morning, but our attention will be on the afternoon storms. These remain in effect until 9 p.m. Tuesday. By the evening commute (from 4 pm on) the threat for showers and storms is over for central NY. This does not necessarily mean a derecho, which depends on the storm intensity along its entire track. Further north, elevated convection has developed north of a boundary in the Chicagoland area, while other storms were attempting to develop near the surface boundary across east-central IL. Those storms could contain damaging winds, hail, and heavy rain.
