Quoth the Goog: "The new YouTube Music is a music streaming service that combines music listening with the magic of YouTube: making the world of music easier to explore and more personalized than ever".
You can still use YouTube Music for free but premium service will allow you background listening, downloads for an offline and ad-free experience.
Like Google's messaging focus, YouTube's efforts to spin out successful streaming and music products has felt confusing and haphazard.
The New YouTube Music will replace the original service that launched in 2015. YouTube Premium, formerly YouTube Red, will ask for a higher $12 a month commitment in exchange for a totally ad-free YouTube and original content.
The new YouTube Music will initially roll out in five territories - the U.S., Mexico, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand - with 13 European countries and Canada to follow at an unspecified later date.
A couple of cool new additions worth noting here too: YouTube Music will finally gain a native desktop application similar to Spotify. Users will also have access to the service if they're subscribed to YouTube Premium, which costs $11.99 a month. It will expand more broadly in the coming weeks.More news: Laurel or Yanny? YouTube's music and video subscription services have been in a bit of mess lately.
In the meantime, what are your thoughts on the upcoming changes to YouTube Music?
In reality though, it's likely to be the sheer breadth of music available on YouTube that will provide much of the appeal.
Listeners will be able to enjoy the service for free if they don't mind their music interspersed with advertisements.
So does that mean we have to say goodbye to Google Play Music? Google is emphasizing its diversity of playlists, too, which will also be used to suggest and surface new music for the user. The service also promises to offer accurate results, based on a simple description of the song, in the event of you forgetting the actual name of the song or the artist.
YouTube Music service will make original songs, artist playlists, albums and remixes accessible from one spot.
