The Detroit Pistons are hiring Dwane Casey to be their next head coach, according to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

The 61-year-old Casey is getting his third shot to lead an National Basketball Association team. The latter pulled his name from consideration following a second interview, making this the predictable outcome.

Casey was sacked by the Raptors a month ago despite leading the team to a franchise-best 59 wins this past regular season. He had one year remaining on a three-year, $18 million dollar extension when he was sacked shortly after Toronto was swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Detroit had been looking for a coach for more than month since firing Stan Van Gundy, who was also its president of basketball operations.

Detroit acquired Blake Griffin in a blockbuster trade this past season and that wasn't enough to push Detroit into the playoffs.

"He's an outstanding man with impressive character". The last time the Pistons made the postseason they were swept in the first round by the Cavaliers in 2016.

Prior to his appointment with Toronto, he served as head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves from 2005-07.

Well, today you can mark head coach off that list.

He also spent three seasons (2008-11) as an assistant with Dallas under Rick Carlisle where he directed the club's defense and helped lead the Mavericks to the 2011 NBA Championship. He later back to campus to work as an assistant for Eddie Sutton.

The Raptors dispatched Washington in six games in the first round of the post-season, but couldn't win a game against nemesis LeBron James and his Cavaliers in the conference semifinals.

The Pistons recently hired the former Nets general manager Ed Stefanski to lead their search for new front-office executives.

Once the Pistons officially hire a coach, Toronto will be left with the league's only coaching vacancy.
