Trump initially touted the potential for a grand bargain with North Korea to rid itself of a nuclear missile programme that has advanced rapidly to threaten the United States, insisting he would swiftly achieve what previous USA administrations have failed to do. The meeting was briefly canceled by Trump. It's a reflection of the intense global curiosity over Kim's sudden turn to diplomacy in recent months after a slew of North Korean nuclear and missile tests a year ago raised serious fears of war.
Discussions at the United States-North Korean summit have "moved more quickly than expected", White House officials said Monday.
Trump, who is offering to reduce economic sanctions on North Korea in exchange for denuclearisation, also seemed to warn Kim that the summit is a "one-time opportunity" that should not be wasted.

But analysts who closely watch North Korea believe it is unlikely Kim would have come to Singapore without being confident of the arsenal's security - and the ability to order its use.
Security is tight ahead of the summit between two unpredictable men who in the past have threatened to destroy the other's country during the stand-off over North Korea's nukes. "And he has that opportunity, and he won't have that opportunity again", Trump said.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Monday the "ultimate objective" of a historic summit with North Korea had not changed and the United States was "eager to see" if North Korea was honest about denuclearization.
Iran said North Korea should be wary of negotiating with Mr Trump following his withdrawal from the landmark 2015 nuclear agreement.
Pompeo, who was in Singapore, did not go into specific details about how the USA would secure the country, but he said talks between the US and North Korea are moving briskly. Kim has sought to overhaul his image this year in a bid to ease worldwide sanctions imposed after he tested nuclear bombs and long-range ballistic missiles.
"I think we're going to have a relationship, and it will start on June 12", Trump said at the time.
"I know Singapore is a very hot country, so I wish that our respected marshal stays healthy and comes back in good health".
It's unclear what Mr. Trump and Kim might decide Tuesday.More news: Trump, Kim Jong Un arrive in Singapore ahead of historic summit
