Best Way to Celebrate Pride: After accepting his prize for Angles in America, Tony Kushner ended his acceptance speech by saying: "What kind of homosexual would I be if I didn't say it's June 10?"

Nathan Lane, Broadway's No. 1 musical-comedy actor for years, can now make the claim that he's Broadway's No. 1 dramatic actor, too, picking up the Tony for his chilling and brilliant performance as Roy Cohn, Donald Trump's lawyer, in "Angels in America". "So let's just bake a cake for everyone who wants a cake to be baked". Winning all but one of the 11 categories it was nominated for, the musical also took the prizes for best featured actor, for Ar'iel Stachel, as well as best book by Itamar Moses, best director, orchestration, sound design and lighting.

Radio City Music Hall was awash in tears when the drama students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS in Parkland, Fla., sang "Seasons of Love" from "Rent", a show written by Jonathan Larson, who, like the kids caught up in the February massacre at the school, died far too young. "F*ck Trump. It's no longer 'down with Trump, ' it's f*ck Trump".

The Tony Awards show was seen by some six million Americans past year.

Kushner went even further, calling Trump's presidency "the Hitler mistake" that put a "borderline psychotic narcissist in the White House". She told the crowd how early in her career, she'd been encouraged to change her last name to Matthews to better her chances of playing non-minority roles.

Another work by a major American playwright - Edward Albee's "Three Tall Women" - also held a share of the spotlight as two of its three stars, Glenda Jackson and Laurie Metcalf, were honored as best lead actress and best featured actress in a play. To all artists out there, she said: "Just be your true self and the world will take note". Onstage guests were volunteers and staffers from three organizations that bring relief to areas impacted by natural disasters.
