The Joker's origin movie starring Joaquin Phoenix is confirmed

The project will be made under a yet-to-be-announced new banner for DC movies at Warner Bros. that will allow for different kinds of projects to be made outside of the continuity of the DCEU.

Todd Phillips' Joker origins feature has been officially greenlit by Warner Bros. and will go before the cameras in September. Who's your favorite Joker actor from the Batman films over the years?

From a screenplay by Scott Silver (The Finest Hours) and Todd Phillips (The Hangover), Phillips will begin directing this picture in September, on location in NY. However, Scorsese's producer Emma Tillinger Koskoff is still aboard here with Richard Baratta as EP. The film's budget is reportedly arond $55 million - relatively low for a major studio superhero film.

"I don't know... it could be an interesting character". With shades of the classic Hitchcock character Norman Bates, the future Joker is more isolated and tortured even before suffering sudden loss after accepting the incredible responsibility of caring for his ailing mother alone. The villain is also rumored to appear in the Suicide Squad sequel as well as the standalone Harley Quinn movie. I never believed that any of these multiple Joker projects would see the light of day, but THR reports that a Joaquin Phoenix-starring origin movie is moving forward.

The film, which is not connected to the DC Extended Universe, does not yet have a release date.
