Another strong quake jolts Indonesian island of Lombok

No tsunami threat after 7.9 magnitude earthquake near Fiji

Massive 8.2 Earthquake Rocks Fiji

"People will feel it but it's so deep that I would not expect any damage", USGS geophysicist Jana Pursley told Reuters.

On Aug. 5, a 7-magnitude quake hit the island, killing at least 460 people.

"People are traumatised by the previous earthquakes and aftershocks never seem to stop".

Lombok has suffered more than 5 trillion rupiah ($342 million; £268 million) in damages following the 5 August natural disaster, authorities said last week.

There was no immediate reports of injuries, damages to buildings or deaths.

The national disaster agency said it was gathering information.

The quake lasting five to 10 seconds also was felt in the neighboring islands of Bali and Sumbawa and as far away as East Java and Makassar in Sulawesi.

More than 460 people died and tens of thousands were injured.

There were reports that one person had been killed and that the quakes caused power outages and landslides.

The total number killed in Indonesian quake is now 436, authorities said, with more than 1,300 injured and almost 353,000 displaced.

Badly damaged roads, particularly in the mountainous north of the island, have created a headache for relief agencies trying to distribute aid. Like many Indonesians, Halan uses only one name.

The area of the quake lies in the notorious Pacific Ring of Fire, a region around the Pacific Ocean where several tectonic plates meet, causing earthquakes. It was initially reported as a magnitude 7.9. A check with the USGS showed that the measurement was 6.9.
