Kohli just wants India to cross the line

India vs England: Dawid Malan axed for Lord's Test, Chris Woakes replaces Ben Stokes

Malan out, Pope in for Lord’s Test

Surrey's Ollie Pope will make his worldwide debut on Thursday after being named in England's XI for the second Test against India at Lord's, live on Sky Sports Cricket.

Team India all set to take on host England in the 2nd Test at Lord's. India will also be anxious about Ajinkya Rahane's mode of dismissals in the first Test, so if he can provide Kohli some support, things can very well change.

India legend Sachin Tendulkar had some words of wisdom for Indian cricket team skipper Virat Kohli ahead of the Lord's Test.

Kohli scored 149 in the first innings while the other batsmen could only score 107 runs combined. The visitors' bowling unit impressed, picking 20 wickets for the fourth successive time on the road since the start of the year, but their batting, barring captain Kohli, was a big letdown. We as a team definitely have more patience than other people and so, we don't take something as a pattern soon.

New selector Ed Smith said upon the selections, "Dawid Malan drops out of the squad for Lord's". They were reduced to 80 for seven in the second innings before young all-rounder Sam Curran's attacking 63 rescued them as they reached 180.

England captain Joe Root explained the decision to have Pope bat at four, despite the Surrey batsman having batted at six in all his 15 first-class matches for his county, saying: "Ollie will come in and bat at four".

It will be interesting to see who England will turn to in the absence of Stokes.

Meanwhile, England announced their 13-man squad for the second Test, in which they have dropped Dawid Malan and Ben Stokes, who is not available for the Test because of the ongoing hearing in Bristol nightclub brawl case.

'In the first innings, to create two half-chances and two clear chances was testament to how we've got good plans against him and found a way to potentially get him out.

There was a lot of talk about the inclusion of seamer Jamie Porter ahead of the first Test but Captain Root preferred Sam Curran and the player delivered a Man-of-the-Match performance.

But in the upcoming match, England would like to improve in a few areas along with the catching in the slips to pressurise the Indian batsmen.

Team India: Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, Murali Vijay, KL Rahul, Dinesh Karthik, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav.
