Trump tweeted Sunday that recent reports suggesting the president is concerned about his son Donald Trump Jr.'s legal fate were a "complete fabrication", before offering a new interpretation of his son's June 2016 meeting with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya.
Amid public uproar over the meeting, the president's son was forced to release follow-up statements, ultimately acknowledging that the meeting's true goal had been to get dirt about Hillary Clinton from a lawyer he had been told was working for the Russian government.
But at the time, the Trump administration broke from the president's story when it maintained the focus of the meeting was related to policies about adoption of Russian children.
Trump Jr. spoke by phone several days before the meeting with a caller who had a blocked number, but said he didn't recall who the person was and didn't know if his father used a blocked number.
Trump has recently come under fire for his own role in the 2016 meeting, as former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen claimed that the president knew about the meeting in advance - something Trump has previously denied.
"This was a meeting to get information on an opponent, totally legal and done all the time in politics", the president said.
When news of the meeting first surfaced a year ago, Trump Jr said in a statement that he and Veselnitskaya had mostly discussed a suspended programme for Americans to adopt Russian children., although he has since admitted that he knew he would be offered "dirt" on Clinton.
CNN reports that other recent tweets from the president, including those attacking special counsel Robert Mueller and the Russian Federation investigation, didn't trigger the same warnings from Trump's staff.
Ingraham then went on a riff about how the left is trying to "get" Trump on the Trump Tower meeting while she waited to reconnect with Don Jr., before bashing Clinton for paying for opposition research that used Russian sources.More news: 9-Year-Old NC Boy Selling Lemonade Robbed at Gunpoint, Deputies Say
However, legal experts say that Mr Trump Jr could fall foul of campaign finance laws, which prohibit accepting anything of value from a foreign government or foreign national.
"The question is what law, statue or rule or regulation's been violated?"
'The Fake News hates me saying that they are the Enemy of the People only because they know it's TRUE, ' he tweeted.
Young Trump responded "I love it" when first offered the "dirt" on Clinton, the Democratic nominee.
They later reversed course in a memo to Mueller and said Trump was indeed behind the statement that omitted the prospect of collecting dirt on Clinton.
U.S. President Donald Trump, in the midst of a working vacation, unleashed a new barrage of attacks on the national news media Sunday, saying it was "very risky & sick!"
"But I think, look, if you get a subpoena, you file what's called a motion to quash", Sekulow told ABC News' George Stephanopoulos on Sunday.
Sekulow said the important thing was that Trump's legal team shared accurate information with the special counsel.
"I had bad information at that time and made a mistake in my statement", Sekulow said.
