Military sources say the attacks are mostly aimed at preventing Iran from establishing a military presence in Syria.
But top Israeli officials are telling the press that they intend to escalate their strikes against Syria, particularly against Iranian-linked targets, in the days to come, and that they intend to do so even if they violate deals with Russian Federation in some cases.
The Israeli army has carried out 200 airstrikes in Syria in the past 18 months, a senior military army official told the Israeli media.

His statement was later confirmed by a military spokeswoman.

The claim came amid reports that Iran has deployed ballistic missiles batteries in Iraq that can reach Israel.
Iranian forces are being kept at least 80 kilometers from Israel's border, as per a promise made to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose forces provide major backing for the Assad regime.
Israel is believed to have been carrying out air strikes in Syria in 2013 against suspected arms transfers and deployments by Iran and its Lebanese ally, the Shia Hezbollah militia.
The Israeli satellite imaging company ImageSat International released satellite images of a destroyed site in Syria, south of the city of Masyaf, which seem to correspond with the location of a reported strike in Hama on Tuesday.
