The governor held a press conference Sunday afternoon alongside state emergency response officials to update the state on the potential impacts Hurricane Florence can have on SC.
Almost all of the North Carolina and SC coasts are included in the cone of uncertainty for the storm and the latest model Saturday night showed the storm making landfall in Wilmington.
It will move between Bermuda and the Bahamas on Wednesday and Thursday, before approaching the southeastern USA coast, the NHC said in an advisory.
Hurricane Florence continues to grow in size and strength as it barrels toward the U.S. East Coast.
Residents as far north as Virginia were warned that Florence could bring a life-threatening coastal storm surge, as well as inland flooding from "prolonged and exceptionally heavy rainfall", the NHC said.
Maximum sustained winds were clocked at 140 miles per hour (220 kph) as it moved west-northwest at 13 miles per hour (20 kph).

A third storm, Helene, off the Cabo Verde Islands was expected to become a hurricane later on Sunday.
"Im telling them to go inland, but Im anxious about the rain and tornadoes too", Roberts said. President Donald Trump declared an emergency in North Carolina, allowing it to access federal funds.
"North Carolina is taking Hurricane Florence seriously, and you should, too", Cooper said.
That high-pressure ridge is expected to be strong enough and far enough west to push Florence near the Southeast or mid-Atlantic coast mid- to late week.
The hurricane center also said that Hurricane Isaac has become the 5th named hurricane of the 2018 Atlantic season.
Several states have declared a state of emergency as hurricane Florence continues to trek towards the East Coast.
The storm is traveling over warm water; it is expected to increase its speed, and become a hurricane by Saturday night. Gov. Henry McMaster issued a State of Emergency in response.
The U.S. Navy is making preparations this weekend for its ships in the Hampton Roads area to leave port. The South Carolina governor ordered the states entire coastline to be evacuated starting at noon Tuesday and predicted that 1 million people would flee.
