Smith voices Genie, the comical blue Jinn who grants three wishes to whoever possesses his magical lamp. Aladdin, played by Mena Massoud, goes into the Cave of Wonders and discovers the Genie's lamp. As well as Tim Burton's Dumbo and Jon Favreau's The Lion King, we're getting Guy Ritchie's take on Aladdin in May. Remaking a Disney film is certainly a big shift in tone and story content than even his most accessible films like Sherlock Holmes but Disney seems to have enough trust in the director to hand him one of the studio's most beloved '90s animated films. The filmmaker later hired Numan Acar as Hakim, Navid Negahban as The Sultan, Marwan Kenzari as Jafar and Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine.
