Paul Scholes has slammed Manchester United's signing of Alexis Sanchez last January, describing him as a selfish player.

Jose Mourinho is still the manager at the club but the Portuguese has come under pressure after a slow start to the season.

"That shouldn't make any difference but it does", Scholes told ESPN, adding, "United now feels like Liverpool from years ago, like we're making all the same mistakes as they did".

"But you know sometimes he is hard, but I try to do my best". I didn't think he was a player that we needed, especially for that type of money. According to reports from the Daily Star, Real Madrid want to reduce the amount of wages on their squad and have thus made a decision to get rid of the injury prone former Tottenham forward.

The duo are largely considered to be fringe players at the moment as they have struggled to start games consistently this season.

The 43-year-old continued: "Martial and Rashford, two really talented players, they need to develop their confidence".

"He's not only a great footballer but I think he's a wonderful lad".

The 27-year-old planned to force Chelsea to sell him to Real Madrid by refusing to sign a contract extension at the Blues.

Man United legend Paul Scholes has now shared his brutally honest opinion on the former Arsenal star - and suggested he was only signed to stop him from going to Manchester City.

"I never went out and thought "I'll not try". I've been there, being put out wide, and you hate it. I'd hate that if it's true, if any player set out to play badly on objective.

"I'm thinking of a De Bruyne, Hazard or David Silva, a link player between the midfield and the forwards".
