London hosted the most important event of the year on October 16, where HUAWEI introduced the new Mate 20 Series, its flagship smartphones, to the world.

"The Huawei Mate 20 series offers consumers a compelling combination of powerful artificial intelligence (AI), flagship performance, longer battery life, advanced security, a greater videography and photography experience, and more-all wrapped in a sophisticated design", said Akhram Mohamed, CTO at Huawei Consumer Business Group South Africa.

The Mate 20 Pro, starting at €1,049 ($1,215), is more feature-packed than the $1,099 iPhone XS Max, with on-screen fingerprint recognition, facial recognition, built-in artificial intelligence, and an impressive triple-lens camera that takes lovely macro and wide shots. The Huawei Mate 20 X has a higher screen to body ratio with a notch on the front giving it a lovely design than it's rival. It has four devices HUAWEI Mate 20, Huawei Mate 20 Pro, HUAWEI Mate 20 X, and PORSCHE DESIGN HUAWEI Mate 20 RS. In addition, he Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro will also be on sale starting from RM2799 and RM3599 respectively.

The handset comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage and it features some high end cameras on the front and back.

The Mate 20 X features 7.2-inches FHD+OLED display, a 5000mAh battery, and Huawei's M Pen.

We are not planning to sell the Mate 20 Series in the US. With the 4200 mAh battery and 40W's fastest charging technology, it is now possible to charge up to 70% of the battery in 30 minutes. Both the smartphones feature the same 24MP selfie camera with f2.0 as its aperture and can record videos up to 1080p at 30fps.

Google also released a flagship smartphone this year, the Pixel XL 3, but Google hardware is not yet available in SA.

The news comes after a bill was signed by President Trump in August, effectively banning US Government employees and contractors from using Huawei devices.

The frame is metal with a high gloss finish, and there's red accenting and a different, scratchy finish on the power button.

The phone is R3,000 more expensive than Apple's cheaper iPhone XR - but still significantly cheaper than the iPhone Xs.

Huawei also unveiled the Huawei Watch GT smartwatch that is claimed to offer over 2 weeks of battery life and features a built-in Global Positioning System.
