The 41-year-old unbeaten American, who captured world titles in five different weight divisions and was considered the best pound-for-pound boxer in the sport, out-boxed Irish mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor in his last fight in August 2017.
Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s retirement from fighting ended last year when he faced Conor McGregor in a megafight that, like most all of Mayweather's bouts in recent years, failed to live up to the hype.
The 20-year-old with a bleached-blond quiff called it an "easy decision" to accept the offer to face Mayweather in Saitama, north of Tokyo. "I'll do that with these fists, with one punch - just watch". As a professional I haven't had a chance to go outside the United States to display my skills and to display my talent for the world'.
It would be shocking if Mayweather did anything other than fight under boxing rules, as he did with McGregor. I'm a little surprised myself.
But speaking at a news conference in Tokyo on Monday, there was no mention of UFC's two biggest names.More news: United Nations chief asks Sri Lankan leader to revert to parliamentary procedures
"It's the biggest moment in my life and I want to be the man who changes history".
"I am pretty sure that when I speak with the guys from my team we are going to get on the same page so we can go out there and do what we have to do", he added. He recently defeated former UFC fighter Kyoji Horiguchi in a kickboxing fight. "I will show that to you, so please stay tuned". "Boxing rules I wouldn't mind". Though many took Mayweather's MMA aspirations as a bluff, it looks like he may actually back up his talk ... just not against any UFC competition.
"He's undefeated, so it's obvious he's been doing something right to be where he's at", Mayweather said.
"It's always been a goal of mine to go outside the USA and go into another arena and display talent as a professional because I did it as an amateur". However, it is certainly a possibility that Mayweather vs. Nasukawa will be a boxing match.
The fight will be Mayweather's first outside of Las Vegas since he knocked out Sharmba Mitchell in the sixth round in November 2005 at the Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon.
